Centennial Tree Planting

Scottsdale Arbor Day, Mountain View Park

Judy Wick, SGC President 2011-12, along with her committee, Mary Victor and Mary Anna Friederich, provided the Centennial Tree for the City of Scottsdale ‘s Arbor Day Celebration on April 25, 2012. City Officials, Scottsdale Garden Club Members, youth from the After School Program at Mount View Park, and local citizens attended the ceremony and participated in planting the Red Pistach tree.

The Director of the AUSFS presented an award to Mayor Jim Lane designating Scottsdale as Tree City USA for its 30-year participation.

Judy Wick dedicated the Red Pistach tree by saying:

“This is Arizona’s Centennial Year as a State. Arizona has grown, developed, matured and prospered. We in Scottsdale Garden Club want to acknowledge this very special event in a lasting tribute. What a better way than to plant a tree where children play, grow and develop! Ladies and gentlemen, our children are our future and greatest asset. Scottsdale Garden Club is very proud to provide this tree as a symbol of Arizona’s future!”
